Dekalb County School System Converse HOOPATLANTA Commercial Contest
One of The Health Education & Communication Center of Atlanta's (HECCA) core missions is to creatively promote sports and physical activity to our youth. We decided to look to the artistic world to develop a creative bridge to our youth to promote our mission. At HECCA, we have set out to reinforce the theory that sports have many affinities with art. In the same way, a sporting performance such as jumping doesn't just impress us as being an effective way to avoid obstacles. It impresses us because of the ability, skill, and style which is shown. It is our hope that our youth who have an appreciation of ability, skill and style in the artistic world could appreciate the same characteristics in other areas, such as in the world of sports. It's hard to say if this could be done with all youth, but one thing can be surmised. One's development in the area of art can broaden one's views overall. With that said, we decided to give it a try. With a little incentive, our goal is to fuse the world of art, sports and physical activity in the minds of youth and have them create an artistic piece that would not only open up their minds, but others as well.
HECCA, in partnership with Converse, is pleased to announce our team has partnered with the Dekalb County Public Schools Foundation, Inc. to see what high school students could create if given some fairly wide parameters to make a short commercial about our programs designed to keep our youth active through the game of basketball. Six (6) high school video production classes within the Dekalb County School System will be participating in the contest. The two programs that will be featured in two separate videos are Converse HOOPATLANTA and Converse Open Gym.
